I have this thing about New Years and resolutions. Facebook is usually plastered with entries from people who announce to the world their resolutions i.e. I’m going to lose fifty pounds, I’m going to keep my house clean, I’m going to travel more . . . but what I notice, more often than not, is that’s the last time we hear about those resolutions. A great many people get busy with life and the resolutions follow the path of the Sabretooth Tiger, never to be heard from again.
An interesting thing has happened to me this year. Perhaps it is a consequence of having taken the leap into the unknown, selling the house, living in a bus, taking the trip of a lifetime . . . but I have had several people, as in a handful, reach out and say they are stuck in a rut, they are bored with life, they are depressed, and to a person they do not know what to do to rectify it.
What I wish would happen, for all of you who secretly have holy shit dreams, is that you find the way to make those dreams come true. I don’t know what’s holding some of you back. I’m not a counselor nor am I a psychiatrist. I’m just an online friend who wishes you could experience the sense of satisfaction and the unbridled joy I feel now that I have taken that leap into the unknown. I’m just an online friend who happens to think that life is far too short to be farting around wishing you could do something. I’m just an online friend who thinks it is better to have fallen flat on your face, attempting something special, than to wake up on your face after restless nights generated by boredom and dis-ease.
Lives of quiet desperation . . . I quoted Thoreau earlier in this long journal, and I stated at the time I believe that old scallywag was right on, way back in the 1800’s, and his words ring truer today. There are millions of people, I believe, who feel like a hamster on a wheel, just pedaling like crazy and going nowhere.
Can you even remember your childhood dreams? Or let me ask you this question: Do you even have dreams at this stage in your life and, if you do, what are you doing about them?
Today I am a big believer in life coaches. I believe many people just need to work with someone, on a one-on-one basis, to find out what is holding them back so that they can achieve their goals. And why not? Athletes have sports coaches. People in business quite often enlist the help of a business mentor. Why wouldn’t normal people need a coach to achieve goals?
If this is something you would be interested in, let me know. I happen to know a topnotch, totally trustworthy, empathetic and compassionate woman who is a life coach and a damned good one. No, I’m not getting paid for the reference. I just want to give you a tool which can help you to experience the joy I experienced in 2023.
I will share her name, and website, at the end of this month. This is one of the rare times I make an endorsement, or recommendation, but I feel strongly about the work she does, and the quality of person she is, so I’m laying it out there for you.
End of this month, her unveiling, new website, exciting new beginnings, exciting possibilities for you who reach out to her.
Do it! Your dreams and goals are worth making the effort.
