So, here’s the thing: Bev and I know nothing about the RV lifestyle. Zero! Nada! If there was a number less than zero, we would not know that either.
It’s pretty amazing, when you think about it, all of the life experiences we have had, all of the years of education and travels and just plain living, and yet we have not brushed shoulders with anyone in the RV life.
Thank the gods for YouTube!
Thanks the gods for the RV community, a pretty nice group of people.
We literally spent a solid year watching YouTube videos about the different types of RVs, and the different ways to save money, and all other aspects of RV life. We bounced around like a rubber ball, from RV to RV to RV, trying to decide upon the one which was just right for us. We almost bought a new one a few months ago, but then backed out when the salesman suddenly changed the price. We almost bought two different used RVs, but after having our mechanic warn us about both of them, backed out of those deals as well.
At one time we loved teardrop trailers. At another time we loved pop-up hard walled trailers. And at one time we thought a Class C or a converted bus was the way to go. Finally, after much angst, we just decided that we would know it when we saw it, that we would not buy an RV until one “spoke” to us and really excited us.
And that day finally arrived!
While out running other errands one day, we pulled into an RV dealership, on a whim, parked the car, and walked over to an RV that was unlike any we had ever seen. It was designed more like a tiny house on wheels than an RV, although it was technically listed as a 16-foot travel trailer.
We were introduced to the Elusive Travel Trailer, made in Oregon, and we instantly loved it.
There are four models of the Elusive Trailer, and we decided the Lo Pro was best for us and the dogs, and ten days after first seeing the Elusive Lo Pro, we bought it and pulled it home to Olympia with our Ford Ranger pickup truck.
To underscore the fact that we know practically nothing about RVs, we spent a good forty-five minutes trying to get the trailer hitch ball to disconnect from the trailer coupler. It was frustrating, and Bev and I both lost patience with each other, but we finally got the trailer settled in our driveway where it now proudly sits.
Welcome home, Elusive Lo Pro! The search has finally ended, and we are now the proud owners of an RV.
We are officially RVers! Now for some RV travel adventures.
I didn’t know you lived in an RV resort, Bill. Interesting. We are thinking about doing that as well.
No renovations needed, Sha, except for personal touches. I’ll show the inside when we finally do that video. I think the first journey will be in April. It’s still pretty chilly here.
Beautifully stated, Rolly! I couldn’t agree more.
Hi Bill and Bev and of course the four legged children you have gathered along the way. I went from a customized hippie van to a camper then to a 5th wheel and loved them all.
Glad you and the crew have found that special unit and I am sure a few practice sleeps in the driveway are in store. Have you and the greatest prize is what you carry and that is those whom you love…
Hugs and Blessings from Canada
Bill, I love the looks of your RV. I think it would have spoken to me as well. Please show us the inside. Do you need to do any renovations or redecorating? When do you and Bev plan on embarking on your first journey?
I’m so excited for you. I can’t wait to hitch a birds-eye view of the wonders the four of you discover along the way!
Just read Mailbag #400, and now I found my way here. Thanks. I can feel your excitement regarding this new chapter of your life. Bev retires in a few months. My oldest daughter, Annette, retires in May. She and her husband, Larry, were full-time RVers for ten years, so I’m especially anxious to learn of your experiences. Also, I live in an RV resort, so many around me have many RV stories. Thanks, again, for sharing both your thinking and your experiences with us.
