Like all articles about RVs and RVing, this one about RV camper will come with a brief explanation about RVs in general. The abbreviation RV means recreation vehicle, with emphasis on the word “vehicle.” Having said that, go to any RV dealership and you will find a wide-variety and vast numbers of travel trailers. Mind you, a travel trailer is towed, and is in no way a vehicle.
With that explanation out of the way, let’s continue working from the premise that an RV camper is anything which is used to “camp,” or live in, while on the road. I know, it’s a bit confusing, but there you have it. Don’t even get me started on people who live in RVs and are not on the road RVing. Are they really RVers if they are not RVing? We’ll leave that discussion for another time.
Types and styles galore
There have been, literally, thousands of articles written about RVs and the various styles and types and brands. I see no reason to continue with that tradition. Suffice it to say that RVs can be as small as ten feet in length and they can be as large as thirty plus feet. They can weight around five-hundred pounds, or they can weigh twenty-thousand pounds or more. They can have hard sides or be made of tent mesh, they can have kitchens and bathrooms, or they can have neither.
If you have a tight budget, fear not. A used travel trailer can be found for around $1,000 if you are patient enough, and for those with an unlimited budget, spending $100,000 is not out of the question.
There are high-tech RVs, with more electronics than the average home has, and there are low-tech, bare-knuckle RVs with a mattress to lay on and not much more.
Your goal, then, is . . .
The only way to approach this dizzying array of options is to figure out what you can afford, make a list of what features you want, decide on a trailer or an actual vehicle/RV, and then set about finding one which meets all of the criteria. For example, a travel trailer for two people with a bedroom, dining area, kitchen, bathroom, and air-conditioning, for under five-thousand dollars . . . now start searching the online classified ads because I am quite certain there is one available which meets your needs.
Literally something for practically anyone
If you have some extra cash, and if you have the desire to start your RV lifestyle, there is, I am sure, something out there for you to purchase. A tight budget calls for some modest needs and desires, but with an almost unlimited number of “RV camper for sale” opportunities, you are bound to find something to RV in, and after a spike in prices during the COVID years, I am happy to report that prices are stabilizing and, in some cases, dropping on RVs.
Are you ready to live the RV life, part-time or full-time? There is a huge RV community out there, on the road, waiting for you, and I guarantee you will improve your quality of life by joining that community.
